K&N Air Filter History
K&N Engineering, Inc. has been designing and manufacturing performance air filters since 1969 in Riverside, California. Today, K&N is the world's leading manufacturer of filters for all types of motorized vehicles (cars, trucks, motorbikes, jet skis, ATVs, etc.). The company created the first reusable high-flow cotton air filter in 1969 and has been perfecting this technology ever since. The name "K&N" is a combination of the first letter of the first names of the two founders: American racing drivers Ken Johnson and Norm MacDonald. The DNA of the KN brand has always been the search for performance and power gain. And logically it has always been involved in various motorsports such as Nascar.
Today, K&N Engineering Incorporation® is a world-class filtration company that sells air filters, oil filters and air intakes in over 30 countries. The company sells over 5,000 products designed for cars, trucks, motorbikes, engines and industrial applications.
Their recipe for success is simple:
Handling / Performance / Consumer Protection
First, K&N filters are designed with four to six layers of cotton gauze media sandwiched between two aluminum wire screens. The cotton media is then treated with a specially formulated grade of filter oil that causes adhesion through the microscopic cotton strands.
K&N's high flow filter media has been tested in their in-house laboratory and by independent laboratories using the ISO5011 air filtration standard developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers. K&N's goal is to design air filters with as much airflow as possible, while ensuring engine protection.
In terms of handling, K&N air filters have retained the original format of each vehicle. So it's very easy to replace your original filter by simply inserting your K&N filter into the original airbox instead of your original air filter. It will take less than 5 minutes to improve the life and performance of your engine.
Keep your K&N air filter forever
K&N air filters offer an optimal blend of high airflow, filtration efficiency, durability and dust capacity, which is why they are guaranteed for up to 1,600,000 km or over 10 years without needing to be replaced.
In order to ensure optimum filter air permeability, we recommend that you clean and oil your filter every 80,000 kilometres before replacing it in the engine, or approximately once a year depending on your driving style. It will be as good as new!
To clean and re-oil it, buy our K&N Cleaner + Grease maintenance kit and follow the instructions. You can also find all our tips for successful maintenance of your K&N air filter in our article "How to clean a K&N air filter".
More than 100 million disposable air filters and their packaging waste end up in landfills every year. K&N® washable and reusable engine, cabin and household air filters are an environmentally friendly alternative to disposable filters. Choosing a reusable product that lasts the lifetime of your vehicle helps reduce unnecessary waste. Join millions of consumers who are helping to reduce filter waste in landfills with K&N!
The performance of K&N motorbike air filters
Imagine the impact of 50% more airflow in your engine, a breath of fresh air! These filters are designed to add power and acceleration to your motorbike thanks to their multi-layered construction of oiled cotton filters providing high airflow and therefore more torque, and excellent filtration to care for the engine and protect it over time.
The manufacturer's warranty is preserved
K&N also helps you to make use of the manufacturer's warranty if the manufacturer refuses to do so because of a K&N filter. Indeed, a law aimed at protecting consumers from manufacturers seeking to discourage the purchase of custom parts is in force in the United States and K&N makes it a point of honour to apply it for its customers.
K&N, partner of professionals
K&N is present at thousands of races and currently equips around 80% of the vehicles used in competition and has won numerous victories in motor sport in all disciplines. For example NASCAR®, where it is the number one filter brand.
